14 Democratic Senators Who are Wavering on Health Care

At today's meeting of the Fort Bend Democrats Club, it was requested that we compile a list of Senate Democrats who are wavering on health care.  It would be productive to contact these United States Senators to let them know that you support President Obama's Health Care Plan.  Or, if you know people who live in these states, ask them to contact their Senators to tell them to they support health care reform.
Click READ MORE at the bottom on this entry to get the list of all 15 Democratic Senators who need contacting.

Walking The Walk

Fort Bend Democrats Club has donated five fans to Fort Bend Seniors' Meals on Wheels program.  The need for the fans was learned though a press release by the Meals on Wheels program for seniors who cannot afford air conditioning.      The club officers voted to make the emergency expenditure during the unseasonably hot weather we've been having so that the fans could be distributed before  the upcoming weekend.

We also encourage individual members to donate new or gently used fans on their own to the Meals on Wheels program. You can contact Kristin Weiss at 281-633-7057 for the donation location closest to you.

Put Single Payer Health Insurance Back on the Table: A Call to Action

Now is the time to contact the president and Democratic Leaders in Washington urging them to support a single payer health insurance program for all.  The following provides background information.  The bottom line is that the large health insurers and pharmaceutical companies, have joined with Republicans to launch a major campaign, spending millions of dollars, to discredit the public health insurance initiative.

Mismanagement, incompetence, greed and scandal have characterized many segments of the private sector in recent years.  Business interests unanimously criticize government intervention on the one hand while they hold out the other hand for unprecedented bailouts and government help.  This country cannot allow private for profit corporations to control the future of health care for all Americans.

Senator Max Baucus made a public statement several weeks ago that is still bouncing around the country like an echo fading off into the distance:

“Without question a single payer national insurance program would not be part of any new health care initiative.”

So, President Obama and the Democrats did not weaken Medicare. They strengthened Medicare. When Congressman Ryan looked into that TV camera and attacked President Obama's Medicare savings as "the biggest, coldest power play," I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Key cuts that $716 billion is exactly to the dollar the same amount of medicare savings that he had in his own budget.
