Democrats Will Take Back Fort Bend County

     Dr. Richard Murray, a recognized expert on political demographics in the Texas area, predicts that Democrats can win in Fort Bend in 2010.

     Speaking to the Fort Bend Democrats Club on Saturday, Dr. Murray says that the demographics point to another 2% increase in Democratic voters in 2010, giving us an even footing with Republicans at 50%.  Additionally, his numbers show that in 2012, Barack Obama will carry Fort Bend by 15,000 - 20,000 votes, giving all downballot Democrats a cushion to win.  By 2014, Fort Bend will be a Democratic county.
     Several prospective candidates attended the meeting and were encouraged by Dr. Murray's presentation. 
     Dr. Murray promised to visit with us again a few months when he completes his precinct-by-precinct analysis of Fort Bend.
     We also heard a presentation by Steve Brown, a member of Fort Bend Democrats Club and a lobbyist for Houston Metro, about the legislative session in Austin.  Brown explained how chubbing works, how Democrats were able to defeat the Republican attempt at voter ID, and what we need to accomplish during the next legilative session.
