With all precincts reporting, runoff elections have been successfully concluded in Fort Bend County. Democratic runoffs in Fort Bend County included races for Texas Railroad Commissioner and Fort Bend County Commissioner for Precinct 1.

Texas Railroad Commissioner:

Early Voting Begins Monday, March 31st

Now for some of us, the Democratic primary runoff is going to be the very opposite to what our primary was. Everything has been decided statewide except for one race: Texas Railroad Commissioner.

Ho-hum.

Railroad Commissioner.

Candidates Forum This Saturday at Fort Bend Democrats Monthly Meeting

As part of their regular monthly meeting, the Fort Bend Democrats will be hosting a candidate's forum featuring candidates for local and county-wide offices. This will be an opportunity to see and hear many of the candidates who will appear on the Democratic Party primary ballot on March 4th.

Candidates will each be given a brief time period to introduce themselves and their positions on the burning issues of the day. We expect a good turnout of both candidates and attendees.

Obama Volunteer Office Opening This Saturday in Houston

As a public service to those of us Democrats who are interested in the Barack Obama campaign, today we have received from the Barack Obama for President Campaign news of the grand opening of their Houston Area volunteer headquarters, two days after Super Tuesday. Now that was fast, wasn't it? Check out their press release below. Some of the information below can also be found at the campaign website, here.

Ron Reynolds for Texas HD 27: He’s OK in My Book

Now I know it is not the policy of the Fort Bend Democrats to endorse a primary candidate. That doesn't mean that individuals who blog on this website can't have an opinion, does it? Here's mine: I support the candidacy of Ron E. Reynolds as the Democratic nominee to run in November for State House District 27.

Noriega Juggernaut Continues to Roll Up Endorsements

Rick Noriega, coming off of what I heard was a Fabulous Fifties Birthday party – no there were no poodle skirts there, the man just passed by his half century lifetime milestone – the juggernaut that has become the Rick Noriega campaign continued to garner even more endorsements this week. Getting the hearty endorsement of his colleague, State Rep Mark Strama (D - Austin) at his birthday party, Rick then set his sights on the Austin Area Democratic confab at the AFL-CIO Hall in downtown Austin where he was endorsed by five area groups: The South Austin Democrats, Capital Area Progressive Democrats, Texas Environmental Democrats of Austin, Capital Area Asian American Democrats, and Southwest Austin Democrats.

As filed in with the Fort Bend County Democratic Party, the following have placed their names to appear on the ballot on the March 4th primary. Positions include both those that are county-wide, positions within the county, and those that include subunits of Fort Bend County.

A Democratic Speaker in the Texas State Legislature?

Let’s take a break from the presidential hustings that have now shifted to New Hampshire. God knows we need it.

“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.”
