Runoff Election Results

By Hal - Posted on 09 April 2008

With all precincts reporting, runoff elections have been successfully concluded in Fort Bend County. Democratic runoffs in Fort Bend County included races for Texas Railroad Commissioner and Fort Bend County Commissioner for Precinct 1.

Texas Railroad Commissioner:

Mark Thompson 117,496 votes (59.16%), Dale Henry 81,107 votes (40.83%). In Fort Bend County, Thompson's vote totaled 888 (62.8%) to Henry's 514 (37.2%)

Thompson goes on to face Michael L. Williams, the Republican incumbent in November.

This race was an interesting one in that Thompson, who is new to the race for this office, defeated Henry, who has run for this office previously. Thompson did not campaign for the office, and in doing so (or not doing so) nearly won a majority of the vote on March 4th. There were those who thought that the heavy turnout for the presidential primary was most responsible for Thompson's success. Something that would not happen in the runoff. This did not happen, and Democratic voters did not return Dale Henry to the November ballot.

Precinct 1 County Commissioner:

Richard Morrison carried the day with 577 votes (68.2%) to Sharon Wallingford's 269 votes (31.8%). Morrison will go on to run in November against Greg Ordineaux, who narrowly defeated incumbent Tom Stavinoha in the Republican runoff. Greg Ordineaux, once a member of the Fort Bend Toll Road Authority, will be easy pickings in the fall, with such broad and bipartisan opposition to building a toll road (Grand Parkway) south of US 59.
