Sugar Land Democrats Club Get Out The Vote visibility campaign

The Sugar Land Democrats Club will resume their Get Out The Vote visibility campaign at the corner of Beechnut and Highway 6 from 7:00am to 9:00am and from 4:30pm to 7:00pm Monday, November 5th, 2012. Volunteers will be holding up President Obama and Fort Bend County candidate (Vy Nguyen, Dora Olivo, Michael Ellison, Teana Watson, Fredericka Allen Petry, M.E. "Skip” Belt, Jesse Torres, Richard Morrison, etc.) signs at this busy intersection.

During the week of October 29th to November 2nd Sugar Land Democrats Club stood at this intersection waving Obama signs as a visible reminder to go vote for President Obama. Fort Bend County had 18 early voting locations and the Four Corners early voting location that is closest to the Sugar Land Democrats Club GOTV (Get Out The Vote) campaign registered a 90% increase in early voting on Friday, November 2nd compared to the previous Friday, October 26th. The second best record in Fort Bend County was recorded by Harmony School early voting location in Katy at 54%.

Sugar Land Democrats Club Co-Chair Deron Patterson stated “The highlight of the week was the middle school children on school bus who chanted Fired Up…Ready To Go.” Fort Bend County Democratic Party Chairperson Steve Brown who participated during some of the morning campaigns remarked, “Standing on a street corner holding up an Obama sign sounds like a daunting task, but once you jump in you realize the enthusiasm you spark in others as they pass by and honk, wave, and smile.”

On Friday, November 2nd, after the morning event Sugar Land Democrats Club activists had breakfast at the nearby Waffle House at Beechnut and Highway 6. Ms. Zoe, the waitress at Waffle House recognized the activists and told them, “What you are doing is creating such great enthusiasm for the people. Keep up the good work.” Ms. Zoe reminded the Sugar Land Democrats Club members that she is from Greece where democracy began.

Lastly, the Sugar Land Democrats Club members wish to express thanks to the 97% of the people who passed by and smiled, waved, and honked with enthusiasm. In regards to the 3% who gave the middle finger, called our President Obama the “N” word, cussed profoundly at the activists, we wish to say that we forgive you.
