Republicans Have No Shame

The Republicans have no shame and no limits on their political attack. I am inspired by the outpouring of kindness and charity of the American people to comfort and assist the Haitian people in perhaps the worst natural disaster in memory. I believe we are seeing the true and sincere nature of our people and our government and nongovernmental organizations. I reject the snide, hateful, and even delusional comments of some of the rightwing media and "religious" celebrities that imply our response is motivated by cynical political calculation, and that Haiti's tragedy was God's will because of a supposed pact with the devil. I believe they reach such extreme conclusions because they themselves lack a sense of charity and concern, and they are numb to a call to assist their fellow man in need, especially a desperately poor black country. Our assistance to Haiti should not be disparaged and politicized.

I believe Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson and their ilk are not what the vast majority of American people are about when it comes to helping our neighbors. Nevertheless, such comments are hurtful and distort the image of America domestically and internationally. Good people should speak out against such narrow mindedness and cynical remarks. Are there any enlightened and moral leaders in the Republican Party that have publically rejected this? Do the Republicans and their media spokesmen really believe this crap or do they intentionally bare false witness to malign the goodness of the American people and the worthiness of the Haitians for some perceived political gain?
