With Paul Ryan speaking at the 2012 Values Voters Summit, its time to really "Talk About Values"

Transcript: Paul Ryan will be speaking at the Values Voter Summit Let's talk about values

Education:

Student: I was just curious, if elected, what you do in regards to college tuition and making it easier for me and my classmates

Mitt Romney: The best thing I can do for you, is to tell you to shop around Student: I'm a recipient of Pell Grants, I come from a very middle class family, under your plan you cut it by 15% , I was just curious as to why you would cut a grant that goes directly to the middle and lower class people that need it the most

Paul Ryan: Because Pell Grants have been unsustainable

President Obama: Education was the gateway to opportunity for me, it was the gateway for Michelle, it was the gateway for most of you. And now more than ever, it is the gateway to a middle class life. No family should have to set aside a college acceptance letter because they don't have the money

The Auto Industry:

Mitt Romney: That's exactly what I said, the headline you read, which said let Detroit go bankrupt,

President Obama: I've met workers in Detroit and Toledo who feared they'd never build another American car, and today they can't build them fast enough because we reinvented a dying auto industry that's back on top of the world

Vice President Biden: This wasn't just about cars. It was about the people who built and made those cars, and about the America those people build!

Medicare:

Reporter: Ryan has proposed slowing the growth of Medicare and providing future retirees with something like a voucher, to buy private health insurance

Paul Ryan: You can call it a voucher, whatever you want

President Obama: I will never turn Medicare into a voucher. No American should ever have to spend their golden years at the mercy of insurance companies

The DREAM Act:

Mitt Romney: If I were elected and Congress were to pass the DREAM Act would I veto it and the answer is yes

Vice President Biden: President Obama believes that even though those DREAMers, those kids didn't choose to come here, they have chosen to do right by America and it's time for us to do right by them

Tax Cuts for the Wealthy

Bob Schieffer: You actually want to lower taxes on the wealthy, even lower than the Bush tax cuts

President Obama: I refused to ask middle class families to give up their deductions for owning a home or raising their kids, just to pay for another millionaires tax cut

Vice President Biden: For the values that define us, for the ideals that inspire us, there is only one choice, that choice is to move forward.

"Anyone with (Cynthia) Dunbar's animus toward public schools should never be in charge of them or have an important voice on what is in our students' textbooks. It's a travesty that the state's top officials aren't attacking the problems created by this dysfunctional board and demanding that Dunbar step down.

But we will. Dunbar should resign and leave the governing of this state's public schools to people who use them, serve them, care about them and understand that they are the future of Texas."

The Austin American-Statesman (Monday, December 15, 2008), in an editorial calling on far-right member Cynthia Dunbar, R-Richmond, to resign from the State Board of Education.
