Hey, Is Your Water Running? Go Catch It!

Are you one of those that leaves the faucet running while brushing your teeth, shaving your face, rinsing dishes or veggies as you wash them or peeling potatoes or boiled eggs? May a plague of camel chiggers find you and torture you for a fortnight! Turn the faucet OFF between uses! Put the veggies in a colander or a bowl. Same with the dishes. Put a coffee mug in the sink full of water for rinsing off your razor. You can save up to 10 gallons of water doing this for every gallon of water you REALLY use.

A leaky faucet can lose 5-100 gallons of water a day. Get them fixed. Put in a work order if you see a leaky faucet at work and don't take "low priority" for a answer when you call and ask why it hasn't been fixed a month after you turned in the order.

Check for leaks in your toilet by placing several drops of food coloring to the tank water. If it leaks, the colored water will show up in the bowl in a few minutes. Not all leaky toilets "sing" that high pitched song.

Take showers rather than baths. Showers take 1/5 to 1/4 the amount of water than a bath. Now I admit, sometimes my back needs that hot bath, that glass of wine, the candles and the Japanese CD now and then. And I hear it's fun to bathe in pairs. Have fun for me, but use less water, OK?

Take shorter showers. Sing shorter songs while showering.

Do everything you can to keep the TransTexas Corridor from being built and permanently taking 1 million acres of water from circulation off the earth.
