Country Club Andy

As most of you know, we held a vote count at The World’s Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc. and named County Commissioner Andy Meyers the Greediest Man Alive.

Okay, so there was some decent. It was not unanimous. Thelma, who has been at several parties with Andy, says the ‘alive” part cannot be proven empirically by Andy’s socialization skills. So, she voted to send it to committee to clarify the meaning of “alive.”

More on Toll Roads

Texas needs your help to reduce the number of toll roads. Many of us concerned about the TranTexas Corridor, NAFTA, and all this toll road business recently received a newsletter from the good folks at Texas TURF (Texas Uniting for Reform and Freedom). If you are interested also, here are a few things you can do:

1) Join Texas TURF and help spread the word and volunteer your services and some money by visiting http://texasturf.org/alerts/?p=subscribe

Religion and Public Schools

Many wish to promote ideas and views in our public schools that are counter to scientific data and fly in the face of reality. Others want a moment of silence. Still others want God or Jesus mentioned in regular prayer or reading from the Bible or all of the above. Which version of the Bible will be studied? Will other religious books be studied?

Tapes can bring down a Presidency

When I first heard that the CIA had destroyed interrogation videotapes, despite a 2005 federal court ORDER that our government “preserve and maintain all evidence and information regarding the torture, mistreatment and abuse of detainees” at Guantánamo, my first thought was of Richard Nixon.

TEA and the Science Teacher

When Chris Comer was fired as head of the Science Curriculum for the
State of Texas few noticed. Then copies of emails and discipline
reports surfaced. A reporter at the Austin American Statesman, Laura
Heinauer, wrote a article about the firing.

Laura Heinauer soon found she had a story that others wanted to
hear. Bloggers went nuts, The New York Times did two articles about
Ms. Comer's firing. Newspapers around the country and a few overseas
soon made notice of what The State of Texas and the TEA were up to.

Even a blind black Republican . . .

A survey of the Harris County Medical Society confirms what we already know about health insurance. It's not working. When surveyed about the top six health insurers in the Houston area, 70% of the doctors said that insurance companies had denied claims for medically necessary procedures.

Let Nick Lampson Know Your Opinion

Every few weeks, our United States Congressman, Nick Lampson sends out a newsletter to keep his constituents informed of happenings in Washington. Often this newsletter contains a 2-5 question survey of current topics.

Today I received an email newsletter with a 4 question survey asking for my thoughts on immigration. Two minutes and a few mouse-clicks later, I had given my opinion to my Representative in Congress!

Judge Susan Criss Interviewed on Burnt Orange Report

Judge Susan Criss was recently interviewed by Matt Glazer who serves as editor of one of Texas' larger blogs, The Burnt Orange Report.

It's a good interview and you should just go over there and read it by clicking HERE.

Liar-Liar Under Fire

Last week, after Rudy Giuliani was busted for lying (on multiple occasions), his advisor said something which I think sums up the GOP/RNC attitude toward the American people just perfectly: “When he talks about New York, people see it,” Mr. Luntz said of Mr. Giuliani, “and they feel it, and if a number isn’t quite right, or is off by a small amount, nobody will care, because it rings true to them.”
