To the 16-Year-Old Who Knocked on My Door, Asking That I Vote for Obama

by David Harris Gershon at The Daily Kos

You looked so young when I opened the door, a clipboard tucked against your side and your cheeks flushed, smiling expectantly.

I assumed at first that you were seeking donations for the high school baseball team or taking pledges for Jump Rope for Heart. But the first words out of your mouth were, "May I tell you why it's important to vote for Barack Obama?"

I was surprised, though I tried not to show it. That's why it took me a moment to respond. See, you were not wearing campaign gear – just jeans and a white T-shirt – nor did you have any Organizing for America paraphernalia. And your clipboard. All it contained was names and addresses scribbled in messy handwriting with sporadic check marks.

Bruce Fleming Loves To Vote

44 Bruce Fleming is the Republican nominee for County Commissioner, Precinct 1, in Fort Bend County. Juanita over at The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon has been moonlighting as a gumshoe and has discovered:

"In 2006, 2008, and 2010, Bruce voted in person in Fort Bend County and by mail in Pennsylvania in the same general elections. According to his financial disclosure forms, Bruce Fleming also owns a house in Pennsylvania. (He homesteaded a house in Texas and a house in Pennsylvania, but that illegality is a whole ‘nother story.) Bruce felt that owning houses in both states gave him the right to vote in the same elections in both states. That’s a third degree felony in Texas."

Snow White, Superman and Pinocchio are walking along. They see a sign: "Contest for World's Most Beautiful Woman." Snow White goes in, later comes out smiling, wearing a crown.

They walk along and see another sign: "Contest for World's Strongest Man." Superman goes in, later comes out smiling, wearing the belt.

They walk along and see a sign: "Contest for World's Greatest Liar." Pinocchio goes in, later comes out with his head down crying. "Who the hell is Mitt Romney?" Pinocchio sobs.

Health care law saved $2.1 Billion for consumers

Health care law saved an estimated $2.1 billion for consumers

The health care law – the Affordable Care Act – has saved consumers an estimated $2.1 billion on health insurance premiums according to a new report released today by the Department of Health and Human Services.  For the first time ever, new rate review rules in the health care law prevent insurance companies in all states from raising rates with no accountability or transparency.  To date, rate review has helped save an estimated $1 billion for Americans.  Additionally, the law’s Medical Loss Ratio (or 80/20) rule is helping deliver rebates worth $1.1 billion to nearly 13 million consumers.
